A biography is always challenging, especially when your main purpose is to introduce people to Christ and strengthen other’s relationship with Him. As such, it feels awkward to have a page introducing yourself. However, people should know who they are receiving their biblical information from to ensure they are not being led astray.
My name is Tom Waters, and I reside in Westminster, MD. I have been married for 32 years and have two adult children. I am blessed to live on a small farm, where we raise beef cattle, chickens, and golden retriever dogs. As a farmer, you see God’s handiwork daily through a newborn calf, the natural instinct God gave a first-time dog to care for her newborn pups, or a simple sunrise.
I grew up Methodist and believed in Jesus, but still thought I played a part in my salvation. It would be easy to say this is a result of my ego, and I am sure it did to some extent, but I think poor education played a role in it as well. I did not have a good grasp on the Bible and its teachings. As I became older, there was something missing in my life that I wasn’t finding in material items, people, or experiences. My grandparents gave me a study Bible for Christmas one year and I began to read the word daily and listen to preachers on satellite radio during my drive to and from work. It was at this point that God let me know I have nothing to do with my salvation, it is all Jesus.
As I continued reading the Bible, I sought out a Bible based church and found a small church that was just that. After several years of participating in small groups and leading some men’s ministry, I wanted more. I knew I was unqualified to really dig into the word and understand the true meaning and how to apply it to everyday life. During a mini vacation, my wife encouraged me to look for a college that would provide the education necessary to better share God’s word. We both spent time that evening searching the internet, and I applied to Colorado Christian University to obtain a master’s degree in biblical studies. God works in mysterious ways, and I mentioned this to a coworker, and he had been thinking of doing the same. We both went through the program together and received our degrees in the fall of 2024.
I struggle with sin daily, whether in thought, word, or deed. I have found the old saying “you are what you eat” to be very true. If everything I consume (TV, Radio, magazines, books, etc.) is worldly content (do what makes you happy, etc.) I more easily fall prey to my sinful ways. The more time I spend reading, praying, and learning about the Bible and Jesus, the less gravitational pull sin has on my choices. I look forward to sharing the Gospel with everyone and hope to share a part of your journey with Christ.
Blessings,
Tom
